APA to Publish JSEC Under New Title: Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences
As of the January 2014, the Journal of Social, Evolutionary, and Cultural Psychology will be published by the American Psychological Association under the new title Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences. EBS will continue to be the official journal of the NorthEastern Evolutionary Psychology Society (NEEPS) and will maintain its current mission of promoting science that advances the study of human behavior from an evolutionary perspective, with an emphasis on work that integrates evolutionary theory with other approaches and perspectives from across the behavioral sciences. A full Press Release is available.
As part of the transition, there is a new EBS web site, where visitors can learn more about the journal, and contributors can soon submit manuscripts via an online portal.
The Journal of Social, Evolutionary, and Cultural Psychology (JSEC) publishes manuscripts that advance the study of human behavior from an evolutionary perspective, with an emphasis on work that integrates evolutionary theory with other approaches and perspectives from across the behavioral sciences. This includes a special interest in work that explores: 1) the role of evolved mechanisms in real-world phenomena; 2) the consequences of evolved behavior for the patterns and structure of society; 3) the interplay between evolved psychological mechanisms and cultural influences in driving behavior.
We publish both empirical and theoretical articles, and welcome qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method approaches. We will consider research on non-human animals provided it offers some insight on a current question in the study of human behavior. We are also interested in articles that seek to translate evolutionary reasoning into implications for policy and practice.
The Journal of Social, Evolutionary, and Cultural Psychology is a peer-reviewed journal and authors, reviewers and readers can learn more about our editorial process and the philosophy that guides it in our editorial statement. In addition, the online format makes an excellent venue for academic exchange, and we hope that people will not only read the contributions to this journal, but respond. We therefore welcome formal, constructive responses to all articles. Finally, this medium enables us to speed up the editorial process and publish current material while it is still fresh.
The purpose of the Journal of Social, Evolutionary, and Cultural Psychology is to publish theoretical and empirical works on psychology that incorporate some or all of the aforementioned sub-disciplines of psychology.
JSEC is indexed in the following databases: Compendex, DOAJ, EBSCOhost, Embase, EMCare, EnCompassLIT, EJS, GEOBASE, Google Scholar, IBSS, PsycInfo, Scopus, Socolar.
