General Information and Instructions for Authors
Blind Review
Contributions are made anonymous and sent to two independent reviewers (double blind review). Most of the time these reviewers belong to the Editorial Board, however, in some cases we also consult external reviewers.
Article types
Research Articles
These papers are full-length descriptions of original research, using experimental or non-experimental methods, conducted in the laboratory, field settings, or using archival sources. The full-length format enables authors to address multiple relevant perspectives (e.g., social, evolutionary, and cultural psychology).
Brief Research Reports
These papers are brief descriptions of original research, using experimental or non-experimental methods, conducted in the laboratory, field settings, or using archival sources. The study described makes a substantial contribution to an area familiar to those in the field and thus an elaborate introduction is not necessary. Manuscripts should be around 2000 words.
Theoretical Contributions
These papers are original contributions to the theoretical foundations of human behavior.
Commentaries
These are short papers in response to articles published in the journal, and if accepted, will typically be published along with the original authors’ reply.
Book Reviews
These are reviews of books relevant to social, evolutionary, and/or cultural psychology invited by the editors. If you have a suggestion for a book you would like to review, please consult the editor by emailing JSEC.
Submissions
General
Authors are required to submit manuscripts via email to jsecjournal@yahoo.com. Manuscripts must be prepared using the JSEC Submission Template.
Cover Letter: Please include a cover letter along with your manuscript that briefly details the paper. Be sure to include the following information: Type of submission, declaration that all authors have agreed to this submission, and that this research has not been published elsewhere.
Author Information: Brief biographical information. In the cover letter the authors should give at least some information about their backgrounds of interest in looking at human behavior from multiple perspectives and information about current work in progress (rather than the listing of honors and accomplishments of the past). At the very least, the complete postal address should be included, and if existent: the URL for the Web site and the e-mail address.
Title Page: The title page of the manuscript must only contain the title, abstract, and keywords. DO NOT include any personal or identifying information anywhere, except the cover letter.
Technical Instruction for Submissions
In technical details, JSEC follows the simplified APA format, as in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association: Sixth Edition. We will only accept submissions that use the JSEC Template attached to an email as a Word document in English.
Spelling: Use American English rather than British or international English spellings (e.g., “behavior” instead of “behaviour,” “analyze,” instead of “analyse”).
Quotation Marks: Place commas and periods inside of quotation marks, rather than outside. Please use “double quotation marks” rather than ‘single quotation marks.’ Single quotation marks may be used for a quote within a quote, however.
Notes: Please number any notes consecutively and in agreement with the numbering in the text.
References: Please use APA style as outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association: Sixth Edition.
Figures, Tables, and Graphic Illustrations:: These items should be numbered consecutively in the text as Table 1, Table 2, etc. or Figure 1, Figure 2, etc. Tables should be given a title. Figures should be given a title and/or caption. The tables, illustrations and figures should be embedded into the template, and also sent as separate documents (if applicable as PNG, GIF, or JPEG files) to the Editorial Staff.
Audio and Video Materials: JSEC will include as supportive materials examples of evidence in audio and/or video formats. The audio or video files should be sent as attachments in standard formats (.wav, .mp3, .mpg, .mov, etc.) and their placements in the article should be indicated in the same manner as tables or graphics (titled, and numbered).
Copyright
Upon submitting a contribution, the editors have the right, after a successful peer review, to publish it. After the contribution appears in the journal, further publication elsewhere is still possible with the consent of the editors and with reference to the original publication.
JSEC has the right to publish any contribution for selected print or electronic editions at any time in the future. Authors will be notified if the article will appear in special print or electronic additions.
